*First Contact*

My first interaction with a computer was in elementary school.  We had to go to “computer lab” once a week and we would become familiar with computers.  I remember it was an old Apple computer, looking something like this.

While in lab, we would practice typing and play games like Oregon Trail.  A few years went by and my dad soon had a computer in his home office.  The typewriter stayed in the corner for a while, but soon ended up out to the curb.  When I was about ten I have fond memories of playing Pac man and other simple games on the new home/office computer, I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.  I quickly became familiar with it and spent endless hours playing mindless games.

My dad has always had a home office, and throughout my life, I have watched him go through at least five computers, constantly upgrading and getting newer technology.

I can remember when we got a home computer, separate from my dad’s work computer.  It was such a big deal…  First of all, my parents made such a big deal about it (because it was so expensive) and my sisters and I would fight over who got to use the computer all the time.  Shortly after our new computer arrived, in my early teens, my parents started using America Online for us to have access to the internet.
